The B Strings Story

I'm a visual artist as well as a singer-songwriter, and I love working with recycled and found materials. After saving the used guitar strings from our tours across the West and Southwest I began using them to create unique jewelry designs to sell to  fans at our performances.

Now, I collect used guitar strings from local luthier repair shops as well as musicians from across the country to recycle into B Strings jewelry.

Where do the strings come from?

Some of my pieces are created with our own used guitar strings - Greg Newlon changes strings on our acoustic guitars regularly. Friends from around the country also send me their gently used strings including folk balladeer Daniel Boling (Albuquerque NM) and guitarist/composer Roman Morykit of Gypsy Soul (Southern Oregon).

Most of the strings I used come from the expert repair luthiers at Keith Holland Guitars in Los Gatos. Big thanks to the team for saving the strings from the guitars they work on.

Do you need an expert set up, or other work done on your guitar? Call the shop at

How often does a guitarist change strings?

Professional guitarists can feel and hear when their strings need to be changed. “Dead” strings have lost their ability to maintain tone and pitch – so they add nothing to the vibe that great musicians live to create – and that we all love to hear.

Some guitarists change their strings every week… some change strings before every gig. Between hosting a concert series, hosting traveling musicians in our home and our own regular string-changing nights, I spent years collecting used strings and thinking about what I could create with them. I began making earrings from our strings for our fans in 2009, and by 2014 I'd created two original and unique bangle bracelet designs using the 'ball ends' of each string as a bead. The B Strings jewelry line was born.
